Meet Toni. She’s a partner in the Financial Advisory Turnaround and Restructuring Services team at Deloitte Canada. She has over 20 years of experience assisting companies and stakeholders during times of financial distress to help restructure and improve their financial performance. She’s currently leading the building of Deloitte Canada’s new turnaround market offering. “A turnaround is when we go into companies when they're experiencing financial difficulty and help course correct them back to profitability, financial liquidity, stronger operations, with a better overall business strategy.”
When a company is in very serious financial trouble—if they can’t make payroll, for example, or are no longer able to pay for goods and services—they’re considered insolvent. This is when Toni and her team often perform a restructuring of the company. “We spend a lot of time working with the management team to find the best solution for the various stakeholders, the employees, the landlords, and the suppliers, to successfully bring that business back to the point of profitability and being able to continue as a going concern.” she explains.
Toni spent a long part of her career journey and developed her financial advisory skills at a small boutique firm, but she wanted to take those skills to the next level. She wanted to be in turnaround to help companies earlier and figure out a more nuanced approach for fixing problems. For Toni, coming to Deloitte was an easy decision. “What’s so exciting about Deloitte is that there’s just so much more—we have services and offerings that I never could have imagined at a smaller firm.”
