Gokul Chaudhri is Deloitte’s Global Business Tax leader.
In a 30 year career focused entirely in professional services, Gokul has played several roles including industry leader for energy and infrastructure, tax talent partner, chief strategy officer for the Tax & Legal practice of Deloitte Asia Pacific, and member of the Tax Executive Committee for the tax function of Deloitte Asia Pacific and at Deloitte India. After a career of 12 years at Arthur Andersen, he was amongst the founding partners of a tax specialist firm which combined into Deloitte India.
Delivering on client engagements, engaging on tax policies, and formulating tax strategies have been a constant feature in Gokul’s career. He has focused on corporate and international tax services, including significant engagements for domestic and international clients, in particular, multibillion-dollar, cross-border transactions, privatization initiatives and project advisory for large infrastructure assets. He has extensive experience in structuring and presenting in-bound foreign investment proposals to the Government of India. In the early years of the liberalization in India, he was the joint leader for the engagement commissioned by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for benchmarking concerns and challenges faced by foreign investors in India. He continues to work on tax policy and is a member of the firm’s Asia Pacific Tax Policy Group.
Gokul is an active speaker at domestic and international seminars and has authored and presented papers at workshops and conferences on fiscal policy reforms. He has also been involved in fiscal reform initiatives by the Government of India. Ever curious and an avid traveler, Gokul enjoys engaging and participating in diverse, multi-cultural teams, and networking across time zones.
Gokul is a graduate in Commerce from the University of Mumbai and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1994.
