We imagine new possibilities, establish trust, drive growth, and find solutions to the most pressing issues facing our clients and communities to shape a better tomorrow. We need more like us. We need more like you.
“You never get bored in M&A. If you want something that’s challenging and a place where you can share the best of yourself and challenge yourself, this is the place to be.”
Meet Karla. As a senior manager in the Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Transaction Services Division at Deloitte LATAM, she advises clients before any acquisition or divestiture of a company by conducting a financial review or analysis of a company’s historical performance to understand exactly what clients are buying. This due diligence procedure analyzes any of the financials that clients need to do prior to acquisition.
The first few weeks of these reviews are solely focused on collecting data and analysis, but Karla is fascinated with the more human element of her work. “We get to talk with the CEOs, the CFO, even sometimes the owners,” she says. “I think that the most interesting part is when we get to the very detailed questions, because that’s what’s going to tell you the true story behind those numbers.” This human connection also provides significant opportunities to learn new things and grow.
Every project is with a different company from different industries. This has its challenges but keeps you on your toes, Karla says. “Everything is pretty complex, but you’re going to have a lot of access to top management and be able to learn a lot about the different management skills and styles. It’s only going to enrich your career.”
And the entire M&A practice is enriched whenever women get more involved, Karla says. “They’re going to provide more insights and different perspectives.” Some people may be intimidated by the rigor of M&A because they believe they're not going to be able to have work-life balance, but Karla thinks that’s a misconception. “At the end of the day, we have the power to decide how to take our work and how to take our personal lives and be the best at both.”
We need more like Karla.
