“Deloitte has helped me create a safe environment where I can be my best self every day.”
Meet Hafsah, a manager in Deloitte Australia’s Data & Discovery Management business, where she and her team generate insights from unstructured data. “Imagine you have a problem statement and you've got an abundance of data to sift through,” she explains. “Using AI and Machine Learning, our team helps find that needle in the haystack, so the right data goes to the right people at the right time.”
Hafsah comes from a computer science background, and initially wasn’t sure what to expect from forensic. “It was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life,” she says. She likes that forensic is so broad—from investigations to regulatory compliance and fraud. “I’m so passionate about forensic because no two projects are the same.” Using innovative technology to find the right solution is exhilarating, and as technology is becoming more interconnected, the rapid advances often mean problem-solving becomes more complex and challenging with each new project. “A solution that you worked on a year ago for a client may not necessarily still work,” she says, “so you need to keep bringing your innovative self to work each day.”
Hafsah is empowered by the amazing women she works with in forensic. “Women wear different hats, from household to career, and sometimes we’re changing these hats on an hourly basis. We need to realize these strengths and bring our different perspectives to the table, so we can design better solutions for our clients. I was part of a remediation program where it would’ve taken years to sweep through the data. But using AI, we were able to help the client get results in a short amount of time and with better quality. I am my most proud when we help clients get to the results faster than expected.”
She implores other women considering a career at Deloitte to be confident, be curious, be yourself, and to take it one step at a time. “Every day is a new journey. The culture at Deloitte, especially the people and the environment, is what I love most about what I do.”
